Dog Poisons – Slug Pellets

Methaldehyde  is an ingredient in slug pellets, which is very poisonous in dogs, primarily affecting the nervous system.

Symptoms and Types

  • Anxiety
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Excessive panting
  • Excessive drooling
  • Uncoordinated walking
  • Muscle tremors
  • Convulsions
  • Hyperthermia
  • Increased sensitivity to light, touch, and/or sounds
  • Increased respiration

Diagnosis

You will need to give a thorough history of your dog’s health, including the onset and nature of the symptoms, to your vet. The vet will complete a physical examination, as a biochemistry profile and complete blood count, the results of which may be varied.
